The Greeks from Egypt have a long tradition of solidarity,
private initiative and determined action toward our common welfare,
based on our national, Greco-Christian beliefs as well as those
of the country in which we all live. So it was inevitable that by
coming to live in this great country of the United States of America
to also retain their traditional values. The necessity of keeping
in touch was imperative, regardless of the origins, professional
and social positions, because for the Greeks form Egypt the spirit
of equality is paramount. Thus, in 1957, in a small and intimate
meeting 12 Greeks from Egypt decided unanimously to establish the
Association of Greeks from Egypt, which was officially recognized
in 1964 by the State of New York as a non-profit organization. The
success of this recognition was greeted with satisfaction as it
confirmed the intent for which it was created. The purpose of the
Association is well known, so any details on the subject are not
necessary, with its establishment in 1957 and its continuous existence
and charitable work greatly contributed to bringing the local Greeks
from Egypt closer together, guided by their Greek traditional values.
The Greeks from Egypt have one ambition. To make the transplant
of a selected part of the Greeks from Egypt community to this great
and hospitable country equal and worthy to the one that once flourished
in the Land of the Nile and was considered the bright start of Hellenism
overseas.
The purpose of the Association is to bring together the Greeks from
Egypt residing in U.S.A., to promote the solidarity and mutual assistance
between its members, the providing of any possible assistance for
educational and charitable works, the promotion of brotherly relations
among its members and the successful accomplishment, through legal
means, of all our endeavors towards the common welfare of the Association
and its members.
